Jazz, Rock, Pop Department
Core Philosophy
South Shore Conservatory’s Jazz/Rock/Pop Department offers the very best in Jazz/ Rock music education including lessons and classes in Latin, funk, blues, and contemporary styles. Our programs and ensembles expose teen through adult students to jazz and rock standards, as well as contemporary charts, and provide a rich history of music from which any student can draw. Students learn and experiment with improvisation throughout the range of course offerings. Ensemble playing is a featured part of our curriculum with a strong Rock band presence. Ensembles perform regularly at off site venues throughout Boston and the South Shore and scheduled with the department’s Rock Band Coordinator.

Jazz/Rock/Pop (JRP) Department Chair Ryan McNeice is a saxophonist, bassist, guitarist, and drummer with a deep passion for jazz and improvisation. He studied Jazz African American Music at UMass Amherst and draws on diverse influences, including Latin music and classical saxophone. A versatile performer, Ryan has toured coast to coast with jazz ensembles, leads the Boston-based BOSS Band, and plays with the Mary McAvoy Trio. He joined SSC’s faculty in 2023.
